Ernest Doebelin Integrating physical modeling, mathematical analysis, and computer simulation, Instrumentation Design Studies explores a wide variety of specific and practical instrumentation design situations. Rather than consult the extensive manuals of these software packages, readers can access handy, sharply focused material in the appendices to assist in comprehension. After introducing the techniques behind the design of experiments DOE , the book discusses several technologies for implementing vibration isolation, the design of a high-accuracy pressure transducer, and the use of cold-wire thermometers for measuring rapidly fluctuating fluid temperatures. It then focuses on a basic piezoelectric actuator that provides translational motions up to about 1mm full scale with nanometer resolution, before covering instruments used to measure the viscosity of liquids as well as two special classes of microphones infrasonic and ultrasonic and their important specialized applications. The book also presents statistical tools, such as hypothesis testing and confidence intervals, for experiments; the design and applications of thrust stands for measuring vector forces and torques; and the analysis and simulation of a shock calibrator. It concludes with a discussion of how shock testing machines can help reduce or prevent mechanical failures.

I was lucky enough to have Dr Doebelin Mechanical Engineering and Because I was also taking a BS in Physics my mechanical engineering classes often were taken in a different order than the typical mechanical engineering student.
My fondest memory of your husband was from ME I was taking Physics Quantum Mechanics that term and the equations we were going over looked very Be proud as he was a great teacher and person I remember my classes and conversations with Professor Doebelin well and still use his text to this day.
I took more than one course from him and remember getting help from him during his lunch time. He would help explain a problem while he munched on his sandwich. He was an excellent professor and a good man. I am sorry to hear of his passing. Although I only had one class with him it was one of my most memorable at OSU. I learned a great deal from Professor Doebelin and enjoyed his sense of humor in class and during office hours.
His capacity to think and dedication in his work were one to emulate. I remember even calling him on the phone one day and he was able to recognize my voice. I truly wish I could take another class with him. He was an extremely intelligent, kind and compassionate man and I have many fond memories of him when we visited with Grannma and Grandpa. Please know that he is at peace and the memories you have shall forever be with you.
Please accept my deepest sympathies. I have happy memories of many times spent at your home and I will miss his cheerfulness and good humor. I thank you so much for making the trip to Chillicothe so that I could see you again and that I could meet that wonderful guy, Ernie.
